Fire Extinguishers
How To Dispose: Please do not place fire extinguishers in your green or blue bin.
Details and restrictions: Fire extinguishers contain explosive chemicals any must be disposed of carefully. Use the telephone directory to contact a company selling fire protection services - there may be a charge involved in disposal. You can take unlabelled empty fire extinguishers to the Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Fluorescent Light Bulbs
How To Dispose: Please take to Retford or Worksop Household Waste Recycling Centre.

How To Dispose: In your green bin.

Food Tins
How To Dispose: In your blue bin.
Details and restrictions: Tins should be free from food waste before recycling.
Food Waste
How To Dispose: In your green bin.
Details and restrictions: Try and keep food waste to a minimum by buying and cooking only the right amounts. Minimise odours and pests when you dispose of food waste such as meat or fish by wrapping it in paper before you put it in your green bin and remember always to keep the lid closed. Food waste such as vegetable peelings, fruit cores etc can be placed in your Home Composter.
Fridges and Freezers
How To Dispose: When you buy a new fridge or freezer the shop supplying it should take the old one away or provide advice as to where you can take it for free disposal. As an alternative Bassetlaw District Council can provide a chargeable collection service. Please see our Bulky Item page for further information, otherwise please take them to the Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Details and restrictions: Please note that glass fronted and glass topped commercial fridges will not be accepted at the Household Waste Recycling Centres or collected by the local authority. They should be disposed of by a specialist contractor.
Furniture
How To Dispose: Bassetlaw District Council provide a chargeable bulky collection service - see our bulky items page for further information. Charities may be able to re-use or sell the items subject to them having all the necessary kitemarks etc or the items can be taken to Retford or Worksop Household Waste Recycling Centre free of charge. Alternatively, use Freegle - Freegle is an online platform that helps people give and get items for free in their local community. Details and restrictions: Please ask the attendant which container the furniture should be placed in because some of the furniture may be reusable or recyclable.
