The count for the Harworth & Bircotes Town Council election held on Thursday 4th May 2023 has been suspended by the Returning Officer until 3pm on Tuesday 9 May. The count will be held in the Assembly Room, Worksop Town Hall.
The Returning Officer took the decision to suspend the count in the interest of candidates and staff welfare, after teams counted throughout the night to deliver election results for Bassetlaw District Council and three smaller parishes.
Tuesday's date has been chosen following consultation with the Electoral Commission and takes account of the Coronation bank holiday weekend.
David Armiger, Returning Officer said:
"Teams counted throughout the night, but due to the size of the ballot and the time elapsed I have taken the decision to suspend the count until Tuesday. We have consulted with the Electoral Commission about this approach and believe it is the best course of action for both candidates and our count staff."
