Worksop is getting ready to host a big weekend of entertainment and events that will celebrate St George’s Day and Bassetlaw's connections to Europe.
A three-day Continental Market will start the celebrations on Thursday 25th April, where visitors can shop for unique goods, gifts, and food from around the world, before Escafield Medieval Society return to Worksop Priory to celebrate a belated St George’s Day on Saturday 27th April.
Both events have been made possible thanks to funding from the Worksop Charter Trustees and Worksop Business Forum, with support from Bassetlaw District Council.
Cllr Maria Charlesworth, Worksop Mayor, said: “This promises to be a fantastic three days of events and entertainment and I would like to thank the Worksop Charter Trustees, the Worksop Business Forum and the Council for helping to make this happen.”
The Continental Markets, held on the Old Market Square on Thursday 25th, Friday 26th and Saturday 27th April, will showcase clothing from Ecuador, Arts and Crafts from Zimbabwe and mouthwatering street food from all corners of the world from Mexico to Turkey to India and more!
The market is free to attend with other events taking place each day including circus skills and a stilt walker, as well as messy hand and feet painting. Finally, as part of the celebrations, to welcome visitors from Bassetlaw's twin-town of Pfungstadt, Germany, there will be live music from a Traditional German Accordion Band.
Cllr Charlesworth added: “This year marks the 45th anniversary of Bassetlaw's twinning with Pfungstadt, which will see twinning members visit Bassetlaw to celebrate this great milestone in our friendship and spend a memorable weekend here.”
To round off a spectacular weekend, Escafield Medieval Society will be taking visitors back in time to the Middle Ages with a St George’s Day experience that includes a full reenactment of a Medieval battle, a Medieval encampment and a tournament that is not to be missed.
There’ll also be plenty of family friendly attractions including Archery, a candle making workshop and a Birds of Prey Show.

“We want the people of Bassetlaw to try new experiences and it’s a great way to bring a variety of culture and history to Worksop.”
