New Shotokan Karate Club Opens in Retford

A brand new Shotokan Karate Club, led by Sensei Natalie Jordan, has opened in Retford and the town’s Mayor was on hand to provide a warm welcome.

Retford Mayor and Bassetlaw District Council Ward Member for East Retford East, Cllr Dan Henderson attended one of the first training sessions, which take place every Monday at Elizabethan Academy Hallcroft, Retford, starting at 6pm.

The club is associated with the Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association (TISKA) and was opened on 5th February 2024 by Sensei Jordan, offering training in traditional Shotokan Karate

Cllr Henderson said: “I want to thank Sensei Natalie Jordan for bringing the Shotokan Karate Club to Retford. It’s fantastic for the community that everyone can get involved to learn about traditional Karate.”

Sensei Jordan has been teaching and training traditional Shotokan Karate for 15 years, she instructs at her club in Worksop and also assists for Sensei Tyers at the 3 Counties Shotokan Karate Club. She also trains with the founder and Chief instructor of TISKA Shihan Sahota.

Sensei Jordan said: “I appreciate the encouragement and many thanks for the invaluable support and endorsement of Mayor Dan Henderson and Cllr Lynne Schuller.

“As TISKA Retford Shotokan Karate School opens its doors, I look forward to reaching out to the Retford Community and hopefully helping residents make a difference through improving self-confidence and our health and wellbeing.”
