Bassetlaw District Council are celebrating national recognition for their work modernising its independent living schemes and improving the overall experience for residents.
The Council has been crowned the winner of the ‘Neighbourhood Transformation’ category at the AICO Community Awards, held last night in Birmingham.
The Council, in partnership with main contractors Fortems and Make Consultants, have transformed Larwood House in Worksop, alongside improvement works at Westmorland House in Harworth and Bircotes, with plans for more.
Craig Taylor, Director of Regeneration and Neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council said:
“I am delighted our ambition to transform and invest in our independent living centres has been recognised nationally.
“The work, when completed, will have delivered around £16million worth of investment into the council’s independent living scheme portfolio. As well as providing quality independent living for an aging population we are addressing health and wellbeing inequalities, cutting running costs and reducing carbon emissions by installing energy efficient heating systems and insulation.”
Bassetlaw’s Independent Living Centres are a collection of self-contained apartments and flats that specifically cater for older residents who wish to live in a community setting.
Bright, modern, and welcoming apartments have been created at Larwood House in Worksop, with updated communal areas, and energy efficient measures such as solar panels and air source heat pumps. Major improvement works at Westmorland House in Harworth is due to be completed in the summer, with plans in place for further schemes over the next two years in the district at Conway Gardens in Retford and Swallow Court in Misterton.
