Harworth Brass set to welcome next generation of members

A much‑loved local music group, Harworth Brass, is set to expand its activities after receiving a £500 Councillor Community Grant.

The funding will be used to help relaunch the band’s junior section, with money being put towards additional music stands, beginner‑friendly brass band music and learning materials. The aim is to encourage new players to get involved and enjoy everything brass music has to offer.

Matthew Colley, Treasurer of Harworth Brass, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from our local councillors. This funding will make a real difference as we continue to grow Harworth Brass and welcome new members into the group.

“Our thanks go to Cllr Schuller and Cllr Horrocks for backing our project and helping ensure brass music remains a vibrant part of our local community.”

Harworth Brass currently has 28 members in its senior section and performs around eight to 10 times a year, with members travelling from Harworth and Bircotes, Retford and Blyth to take part.

Councillors Lynne Schuller and Joe Horrocks, Ward Members for Harworth and Bircotes, jointly said: “We are delighted to support Harworth Brass Band through our Councillor Community Grants. The band plays an important role in bringing people together and offering residents of all ages the opportunity to get involved in music.

“We’re pleased that this funding will help the group expand and continue the long‑standing tradition of brass music in Harworth, and we look forward to seeing the band grow and thrive.”

Harworth Brass Band rehearses every Thursday from 7.15pm to 9.15pm at Harworth and Bircotes Town Hall.
