What is CIL?
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge on certain types of new development that can be applied by local authorities. New developments, which includes extensions and changes to the use of existing buildings, are charged per square metre of new floorspace.
The funding we collect is used to help provide the building, replacement, operation and maintenance of infrastructure needed to support growth in Bassetlaw. This includes:
- Roads and other transport facilities
- Flood defences
- Schools and other education facilities
- Medical facilities
- Sporting and recreational facilities
- Open spaces
We publish an Infrastructure Funding Statement (IFS) each year which lists the infrastructure projects that CIL has provided and could be used to fund.
Policy and Legal Framework
The CIL is set by law and national regulations established by the Government. For a detailed understanding of the legal framework for the CIL, please refer to the Planning Act 2008 and the Community Infrastructure Regulations 2010 (as amended).
Our CIL rates have been independently assessed and are approved in Charging Schedules which have been adopted by the Council.
