New Accelerator business support programme announced for Bassetlaw

Bassetlaw businesses are to receive a significant boost to their growth plans, thanks to the launch of the Bassetlaw Accelerator project. The project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and East Midlands Chamber. It signals a new era of local place-based support for the district and offers support to businesses at any stage of development.

The programme offers Bassetlaw businesses:

(1) Business Adviser support

A team of locally based Advisers and Specialists, employed by the Chamber, who will offer high-intensity growth implementation support to businesses to create new jobs or exploit technology to improve performance. Diagnostics will be assessed, and a Business Action Plan produced through the Balanced Scorecard strategic management system model.

(2) Training including action planning workshops and webinars in areas such as finance, HR and digital.

(3) Access to finance including specialised consultancy through growth voucher support and grants.

(4) Networks for collaboration with fellow businesses including through the national Help to Grow: Management Course, North Nottinghamshire Manufacturing Network and dedicated business forums.

(5) The Bassetlaw High Street Business Support Programme which will help high street businesses increase footfall and attract new customers through dedicated business adviser time and access to workshops on topics such as e-commerce, using social media as an online shopfront and improving customer journeys through social content.

Businesses are invited to hear about support on offer at the Bassetlaw Accelerator launch event, taking place on Monday, 13th November 2023 at Retford Enterprise. Diane Beresford, Deputy Chief Executive of East Midlands Chamber, will present on the range of Accelerator support available, and explain how businesses can register to join the project and secure their free training workshop places.

Cllr Jo White, Cabinet Member for Business and Skills at Bassetlaw District Council, said,

“We are thrilled to be working with East Midlands Chamber on this new business support project. The programme provides a wide range of local place-based support that will bring significant benefits to many businesses in the area.

“We have always believed in supporting local businesses, and we hope that by working in partnership with the Chamber, the Bassetlaw Accelerator project will promote business growth for those businesses located on business parks, the high street and in rural communities.”

Diane Beresford, Deputy Chief Executive of East Midlands Chamber, added,

“The Chamber has partnered with Bassetlaw District Council on several successful initiatives over recent years. Two notable examples are East Midlands Accelerator, a project which, in North Nottinghamshire, received £1.7 million from the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund (UKCRF), together with the original Bassetlaw High Street Support Programme which brought much-needed footfall to high street businesses. We’re now looking forward to reaching a much wider range of sectors to give businesses the skills and resources they need to build in the most robust way for the future.”

Businesses wishing to learn more about the Accelerator project in Bassetlaw can do so by signing up to the 13th November event or visiting the programme and choosing Bassetlaw as their district.
