An Evening of Victorian Elegance with a Spooky Twist

An Evening of Victorian Elegance with a Spooky Twist

Bassetlaw Museum is delighted to present 'An Evening of Victorian Elegance with a Spooky Twist,' an event that promises a unique blend of history, fashion and Halloween excitement. This event will take place on Thursday, 26th October 2023, from 6.30 to 8.30 pm offering visitors an exclusive peek into the Victorian era.

The highlight of the evening will be a rare opportunity to explore a selection of Victorian garments from the Museum's own collection. Step back in time and admire intricate details of lavishly decorated silk and velvet capes, bodices with voluminous leg-of-mutton sleeves, and an elegant mourning outfit crafted c 1900 by Edward Gascoyne Daft, a Retford Milliner, Dress, and Mantle Maker, whose premises were located on Carolgate, Retford.

The museum's extensive costume collection spans clothing, textiles and accessories from the late 18th century to the present day, with recent acquisitions even including boiler suits from Cottam Power Station.

For those who seek a bit of competition, the event will feature a fun Halloween Quiz - a great opportunity to test your knowledge and challenge your friends and family in an engaging atmosphere. The museum's elegant drawing room will set the stage for Victorian and local ghost stories.

This event is for history and fashion enthusiasts and for anyone looking for an exciting way to celebrate the Halloween season.

Bassetlaw Museum is located on Grove Street, Retford, a short walk from the Market Square. For additional information please visit the Bassetlaw Museum website or contact the museum on 01777 713749, bassetlaw.museum@bassetlaw.gov.uk.
