Grant Boosts Funding for 2026 Retford Half Marathon

The Retford Half Marathon returns this March, once again taking its place on the local sporting calendar as runners compete for the top step of the podium.

Taking place on Sunday 15th March at 10am, the event will see 1,400 athletes tackle the 13.1‑mile course organised by Retford Athletics Club.

To support the event a £1,350 grant from a team of Bassetlaw District Councillors will help towards the running costs of the event with medals being purchased for the runners as well as some of the grants going back into the club to help provide equipment to young children for grassroots athletics.

Lisa Foster, Race Director for Retford Half Marathon said: “I would like to thank the Councillors who have supported the half marathon. Their contribution plays a vital role in helping us deliver a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable event for runners of all ages and abilities. This support allows us to continue improving the race experience and enhancing the positive impact the event has on the local community.”

“The Retford Half Marathon is powered by volunteers, community spirit, and the dedication of those who believe in its value. We’re incredibly grateful for the Councillors’ backing, which helps us promote wellbeing, encourage participation in sport, and showcase the very best of Retford.”

The course begins at Retford Oaks academy, before leading out to nearby villages of Barnby Moor and Torworth before a sharp turn onto Billy Button Lane towards Blyth, turning back towards Barnby Moor, onto London Road, into the final stretch on Babworth Road to the finish line back at the school.
