Preparations for kerbside glass recycling collections in Bassetlaw are gathering pace with new bins set to be delivered to the first set of households within the next two weeks.
The new black bins, which are just for recycling glass, will be distributed across Bassetlaw on a weekly basis, with the first deliveries going out to households in the north-east of the district from Monday 17th November.
Bins will be left outside properties and residents are advised to keep them with their other bins until the first collections begin from 30th March 2026.
The first delivery includes the villages of Everton, Scaftworth, Misterton, West Stockwith, Walkeringham, Beckingham, Misson, Harwell and Gringley on the Hill.
A second tranche of deliveries will go to the villages of Saundby, Bole, West Burton, Sturton le Steeple, North and South Wheatley, Leverton, Littleborough, Cottam, Rampton, Woodbeck, and Treswell from week commencing 24th November.
Deliveries are expected to continue up to the end of February 2026 and you can find out when bins will be delivered to your area by visiting www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/blackbins, where you’ll also find more information about kerbside glass recycling, including a list of helpful FAQs.
Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “This is an exciting time for recycling in Bassetlaw and residents can start to take delivery of their new bins very soon.
“Over the last few years, we have had consistent requests from residents, asking us to provide a kerbside glass recycling service, which will make it easier for people to recycle more of their waste.
“I’m pleased to say that we will be able to provide this new service from the end of March 2026, as well as collecting even more items in your blue recycling bin as part of Simpler Recycling. Please look out for more information on both of these initiatives that will bring about a hugely positive change for all Bassetlaw residents.”
Residents can choose to start putting glass in their new 180 litre bins as soon as they are delivered. For comparison, the Black Bins are smaller than your Green and Blue Bins which are 240-litre.
Collections will begin from 30th March 2026 and will take place every six weeks. You can continue to recycle glass at our existing Recycling Points across Bassetlaw up to this date.
The types of glass that you will be able to recycle in your new Black Bin include: Wine and beer bottles, sauce and condiments jars, cosmetics jars, perfume bottles and medicine bottles. Any other items can be put in your Green Bin or taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centres.
To support these changes, a dedicated App will be launched in the new year that will provide key information on things like bin collection days based on where you live, precisely what additional items can be recycled in your blue bin, live updates on any disruptions to our collections, and much more.
These additional collections are being introduced as part of Simpler Recycling, which requires all local authorities and waste collectors to standardise and simplify recycling and waste across the country.
This new legislation aims to standardise recycling across the country and make it easier for households to understand how to recycle more of their waste and reduce the amount of waste that is either incinerated or taken to landfill.
Local Authorities will also be required to collect food waste from 2027 as part of these measures.
