A dedicated community group is encouraging people to get active, connected and try something new this summer with a free wellbeing event that has received a £950 Councillor Community Grant.
Active Communities CIC, based in Harworth and Bircotes is hosting a Wellbeing Weekender at Harworth Colliery Football Club on Saturday 11th July between 12noon and 3pm, which has been supported by funds from Bassetlaw District Councillors.
On the day there will be a wide range of activities for everyone to get involved in such as football, darts, wheelchair basketball, archery as well as a meet and greet with local health and wellbeing services. As the community continues to grow across Bassetlaw, the event aims to connect people with local opportunities, discover new activities and build stronger community relationships.
Darren Huart, Director of Active Communities CIC said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing the community together for this wellbeing event. It’s all about giving people the chance to try something new, meet others and see what support and opportunities are available locally in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the councillors for their support through this grant, which has helped make the day possible. Their backing allows us to reach more people and create a safe, inclusive environment where everyone feels able to get involved.”
Cllr Lynne Schuller, Cllr Joe Horrocks and Cllr June Evans, Ward Members for Harworth and Bircotes jointly said: “We’re really pleased, alongside our fellow councillors, to support Active Communities CIC in delivering this wellbeing event for Harworth and Bircotes. It’s a fantastic opportunity for residents of all ages to come together, get active and connect with local groups and services in a friendly and inclusive environment.

We’re proud to support initiatives like this through the Councillor Community Grant and look forward to seeing the event make a real difference locally.”

Active Communities CIC is dedicated to providing opportunities for young people in communities across Bassetlaw. Their approach is to ensure everyone, regardless of their background can enjoy sport and physical activity.

Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small annual budget and has the discretion to award grants to support community activities within their ward. Councillor grants may support projects related to sport, culture and heritage, environmental sustainability, social welfare, and general community benefit.
