The Bassetlaw Achievers Awards returned this year, celebrating the outstanding efforts of 28 individuals and three community groups whose contributions have improved the lives of people across the district.
The annual awards recognise people who make a positive difference through charitable work, personal or business achievements, sporting excellence, community activity, or by showing exceptional resilience in the face of adversity.
The ceremony took place at Worksop Town Hall on Wednesday 18th March, where the Chair of Bassetlaw District Council, Cllr Tony Eaton, presented the awards to winner who had been nominated by district councillors, schools, community groups, Parish Councils and members of the public.
Among this year’s award winners were:
Bill Bryan who was recognised for his lifelong dedication to honouring fallen service personnel and his work with the Royal British Legion and the Western Front Association. From decades of laying crosses in France to helping rededicate the Nether Langwith War Memorial, his research, remembrance work, and community efforts have ensured their sacrifices are never forgotten.
From the Heart Charity were recognised for the positive impact they make by supporting families across Bassetlaw through food parcels, donations, community events and offering a warm welcome and a listening ear to anyone in need. Their work has helped to reduce isolation, build confidence and offer hope for people in some of the toughest moments of their lives.
Mark Marshall, from Retford, was also recognised for his remarkable achievements in golf, including winning a World Championship in the North-East last year. More than a decade after losing his right arm in a workplace accident, Mark’s determination and passion for the sport have seen him excel at the highest level.
Cllr Tony Eaton said: "The Bassetlaw Achievers Awards once again shone a light on the remarkable individuals and groups who make our district such a special place to live. Every nominee and winner have played a part in changing lives, strengthening our communities, and reminding us of the power of people coming together for the common good.
“It was a privilege to celebrate their achievements. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to others inspire us all, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who continues to make a difference across Bassetlaw.”
