Notice of the Commencement of the Period for the Exercise of Public Rights

The unaudited statement of accounts for the year ended 31 March 2026 will be published on the Council’s website by 30th June 2026 at https://www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/about-us/finance-and-budgets/annual-statement-of-accounts-and-audit-reports/
The Statement of Accounts, including the Narrative Report, and Annual Governance Statement have not been audited and may, as published, be subject to change.
The period for the exercise of public rights commences at 9.30am on 1 July 2026 and will conclude at 4.00pm on 11 August 2026.
The Council’s accounts are subject to external audit by Mark Surridge, for and on behalf of Forvis Mazars, Park View House, 58 The Ropewalk, Nottingham, NG1 5DW.
(1) From 9.30am on 1 July 2026 to 4.00pm on 11 August 2026 any person may inspect and make copies of the accounts of the Council for the financial year to 31 March 2026 and all related documents (comprising books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts) except as provided for in section 26(4) to 26(6) of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 in relation to commercially confidential and personal information.
This is by appointment, made by contacting by email Karen Ludditt, at karen.ludditt@bassetlaw.gov.uk, or by writing to them at the address below. Copies of the accounts and certain related documents may also be taken.
(2) From 9.30am on 1 July 2026 to 4.00pm on 11 August 2026 at the request of a local government elector, the local auditor must give the elector, or any representative of the elector, an opportunity to question the auditor about the accounting records of the Council.
(3) From 9.30am on 1 July 2026 to 4.00pm on 11 August 2026 a local government elector for the area of the Council or his/her representative may make objections to the auditor, under section 27 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 relating to any matter where the auditor could take action under section 28 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, namely, to apply to the court for a declaration that an item in the accounts is contrary to law. Written notice of the proposed objection and the grounds on which it will be made must be sent to the auditor at the address given above and also copied to the Council at the address given below.
