The historic market town of Retford was granted its first charter (the right to hold a fair) by King Henry III in 1246 and this was extended in 1275 By King Edward I to allow a Saturday Market a tradition that continues today.

The very popular open-air market is held in the market square each Thursday and Saturday against the backdrop of fine Georgian buildings.  On Friday’s, browsers can seek out bargains at the Antique and Collectors Market.

On the third Saturday of every month, Retford plays host to a popular Farmers’ Market and a Craft Market. On the Farmers' Market you will find a variety of locally grown produce including fruit and vegetables, jams, meat, honey, ice creams, dairy produce and freshly prepared food and drink is on sale. Whilst on our Craft Market there are a number of traders selling a wide variety or handcrafted items, including jewellery, greetings cards and many more craft items.

The markets will open to the public at 8.30 am until 2.30 pm.

Your local traditional market has something for everybody. From household goods, clothing and flowers, to providing fresh fruit and veg, catch of the day and quality meats, Retford’s Market caters for all.
