Why are inspections only in spring and late summer?
These are the busiest parts of the growing season, so they provide the clearest picture of active cultivation and plot condition.
Will two inspections be enough to identify underuse?
Yes for core monitoring, but additional visits may be made if concerns are reported or standards aren’t met. Follow ups etc.
What dates will inspections happen?
Target windows are April–May (spring) and August–September (late summer). (Subject to change depending on weather conditions).
Will plot holders get notice?
No.
How will “actively using” vs “neglected” be assessed?
Against the tenancy agreement standards- please refer to your agreement, Photos and brief notes will be taken as evidence.
Will photographs be taken?
Yes, for record-keeping and consistency. Images will focus on plot condition.
What counts as cultivation during early/late season?
Evidence of preparation (bed prep, mulching, seedlings/planting plans) in spring; visible crops/maintenance and weed control in late summer.
What happens if a plot is found neglected?
A staged process: written warning with a reasonable improvement period → possible termination if no improvement. A council cannot simply evict someone quickly without good cause.
Why is the water charge the same for full size and half size plots?
We apply the same water rate because many of our half size plots are, in practice, almost as large as full size plots. Charging different rates would therefore be inconsistent across the site. We have also not found any evidence to show that a full size plot uses significantly more water than a half size plot. By sharing the site’s water charges equally between all tenants, the system remains fair, simple, and consistent for everyone, while reinforcing the expectation that all plot holders use water responsibly.
