A long-running community coffee morning at Christ Church in Worksop has received a welcome boost, thanks to a £100 grant from a Bassetlaw District councillor.
Cllr Fraser Merryweather, Ward Member for Worksop North-East, contributed a portion of his Community Grant towards the purchase of essential supplies including coffee, tea, and sugar, as well as prizes for the group’s regular bingo and quiz sessions.
The weekly coffee morning, which has been running for over 10 years, welcomes between 20 and 30 attendees every Friday from 10am to 12pm. It plays a vital role in supporting isolated and vulnerable residents, and has helped people reconnect with long-lost family members, form new friendships, and establish supportive local networks.
Reverend Peter Stanley of Christ Church said: "We’re grateful to Cllr Merryweather for his donation towards the coffee morning. Contributions like this are always welcome, as they help us grow the event and encourage more people to come along."
Cllr Fraser Merryweather added: "It’s wonderful to see more and more people attending the coffee morning at Christ Church. It’s all about building a supportive network, creating friendships, and bringing people together through laughter and fun."
Each Bassetlaw District Councillor receives a Community Grant budget, which they can allocate to projects and initiatives that benefit residents within their ward. Applications are considered for activities related to sports, culture and heritage, the environment, social welfare, and wider community development.
