People in Tuxford have chosen improvements to Gilbert Avenue Playing Field as the project they would most like to see delivered in the town.
Residents shared their views through consultation as part of the Tuxford Streetscaping Project, which asked them to rank a range of possible improvements, with 70% backing Gilbert Avenue Playing Field improvements over the creation of a new skate park.
Tuxford Town Council has supported the results and agreed to the next steps, including looking at delivering the preferred scheme.
Cllr Joan Moorhouse, Chairman of Tuxford Town Council said: “The Gilbert Avenue project will bring improved sports and leisure facilities to the town.
“Thanks to the government’s Streetscape funding and following the public consultation, we look forward to the works getting underway.”
Plans for Gilbert Avenue Playing Field include creating a more inclusive, high-quality space for sport, fitness and community use. This would support local teams and encourage more grassroots participation.
The original proposals also include modular pods with accessible changing rooms and toilet facilities, improvements to the base of the existing outdoor gym and social area, and tree planting.
Cllr Emma Griffin, Ward Member for Tuxford said: "We would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation and shared their views on the future of Tuxford.
“The results show strong support for improvements to Gilbert Avenue Playing Field, and we are pleased to support the next stage of work to look at how this project could be delivered for the benefit of local residents, sports teams and community groups.”
If funding remains available after delivery of the main project, residents identified the following additional priorities:
1. Linden Avenue Play Park nature and green improvements
2. Depot and Scout Hut green energy improvements
3. St Nicholas’ Church clock repair
4. Brown signage and heritage trail
5. Improvements to the wall at Tuxford Working Men’s Club
Cllr Steve Scotthorne, Cabinet Member for Identity, Planning and Place said: "We are pleased that residents have had their say and helped identify the project they would most like to see taken forward.
"The proposals for the Gilbert Avenue Playing Field provide an exciting opportunity to invest in facilities that will make a real difference locally."
The work in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council is being funded by the government’s Streetscaping fund which aims to improve where people live, create employment opportunities, and boost community facilities.
