Bassetlaw District Councillors have considered a report by the Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP) concerning members allowances for 2025-26.
The law requires that all councils periodically appoint an Independent Remuneration Panel to consider the allowances paid to their elected members. Bassetlaw’s IRP has three members and is independent of Bassetlaw District Council’s Officers and Councillors.
The Independent Remuneration Panel recommended a 3.2% increase to all allowances, which is in line with the 3.2% pay awarded to Council employees for 2025-26.
Councillors approved this recommendation at an Extraordinary Full Council meeting on Thursday 6 November 2025.
The allowance is paid to all elected members of the authority for their role as a councillor for their time and expenses. Those with extra responsibilities receive a Special Responsibility Allowance.
The increase is backdated to May 2025, which is the start of the new Civic year, with the basic allowance for members rising from £5,186 to £5,351.
