Council secures Closure Order

A Worksop property linked to reports of drug related activity and anti-social behaviour has been subject to a Closure Order following a successful application by Bassetlaw District Council.

Concerns about the property on Sandhill Street had been ongoing between at least May 2025 and September 2026, with repeated complaints from residents and numerous interventions by the Council and Nottinghamshire Police.

The Council, supported by the police, successfully applied to Nottingham Magistrates court on Thursday 1st October 2026 for a Closure Order under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. This was followed by swift action by the Council’s Housing and Anti-Social Behaviour team who served the Closure Order on the same day and sealed the property to prevent access.

The court heard how the premises had become associated with ongoing anti-social behaviour, criminality and serious nuisance to members of the public, including observations of up to 30 to 40 visitors attending the property in a single day.

It found that a Closure Order was necessary to prevent the behaviour, nuisance, and disorder from continuing.

It will remain in place for three months and expires at midnight on 1st January 2027. During this time, no one may enter the property until the order expires or by further order of the court, with anyone breaching this facing up to 51 weeks imprisonment, a fine or both.

Kerry France Head of Legal and Governance said: “We know the issues linked to this property have caused real concern for nearby residents, and we hope this Closure Order gives them some peace of mind.

“This action shows that we will work with our partners to tackle anti-social behaviour and take the steps needed to protect our communities.”
