Our services during Storm Goretti

Snow warning sign.

Predicting the weather can be tricky at the best of times, (just ask Michael Fish!). However, the Met Office has issued an Amber Warning for snow in parts of our region, and we want to let you know how our services will continue to operate in the event of any severe weather hitting Bassetlaw on Thursday night and Friday.

Bin Collections

At the moment, we anticipate that our collections will continue as normal. Should there be any disruptions, please visit our social media and website for the latest updates.

Markets

Our markets in Worksop and Retford are planned to go ahead if it is safe to do so. However, a lower attendance from traders is expected. All our market areas will be gritted in advance.

Car Parks

Our Car Parks will be open and gritted regularly during severe weather.

Our Parks and Cemeteries

There are no plans to close our parks and cemeteries. But please take extra care during icy and snowy conditions so that you can enjoy our spaces safely:

Stay away from ponds and lakes and never walk on ice.

Be cautious near trees – snow can weigh down branches, causing them to fall.

Paths may be untreated and slippery.

Housing

Our Housing Service will adapt to the changing conditions, and we will notify tenants if we’re not able to complete any planned repairs.

We will also be making Safe and Well checks on our more vulnerable customers. If you need to contact our Housing Team, please call 0800 590 542.

Homelessness

Our Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP) is in place and providing accommodation for rough sleepers.

To access SWEP, or to report anyone who is rough sleeping, please contact our Housing Solutions Team on 01909 533 533 before 4pm on the day that accommodation is needed.

You can also report someone sleeping rough by using www.streetlink.org.uk or call the Street Outreach Team – 0800 066 5356.

Council Offices

The Council’s Offices in Worksop, Retford and Harworth and Bircotes plan to be open. In the event of severe weather, the number of staff attending these offices in person may be reduced.

However, our staff and services will be available to help you. To stay in touch with the latest updates, please visit www.bassetlaw.gov.uk, follow us on Facebook and other social networks, or contact us by calling 01909 533 533.

Also, if you don’t know who Michael Fish is, ask an older adult!
