Bassetlaw District Council Leader's Column 12/12/25

Cllr Julie Leigh, Leader of Bassetlaw District Council

Last week we backed plans to refresh our Council plan and Vision 2040 to make sure it keeps in step with changing priorities while continuing to deliver great services and create better outcomes for everyone in the district.

Our update will allow us to build on previous success and prepare for upcoming changes in local government, which will bring significant changes to how local services are delivered.

It will be built around our clear mission to support people, neighbourhoods, and the economy through transformation, while laying the foundations for a clean, green, high-tech future.

We want to make sure we remain financially resilient, and position ourselves in the best place we can be, ready for the transition to a new unitary council.

There is still time for you to help shape how our budget is spent over the coming financial year.

Our Budget Conversation survey is finding out which services you use the most and any ideas you may have on ways to make potential savings.

We are going to use your feedback as part of our budget setting process which will culminate in the annual budget meeting which takes place on 26th February 2026.

Those of you who complete the survey also have the chance to win one of ten £25 Love2Shop vouchers.

To take part in the five-minute survey visit www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/budget-2025 or pick up a hard copy from the council offices.

Finally, if you are looking for some festive magic while Christmas shopping, come and meet Santa on Saturday 13th December in Worksop Town Centre.

He is taking a break from his preparations, to visit Bridge Place with his sleigh between 10am and 12noon.

Families can make their own reindeer food to take home, there is also free face painting for all ages.

While on Saturday 20th December the Worksop Miners Welfare Band will be performing Christmas carols and festive favourites on Bridge Place between 10am and 12 noon.

You can find out more about the events taking place at https://www.discoverworksop.co.uk/whats-on

These activities are being delivered in partnership with Discover Worksop, the Charter Trustees, and the Worksop Business Forum supported by funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and North Notts BID.

And for those visitors who plan to extend their stay in town, we continue to offer free car parking in our car parks after 1pm.
