Bassetlaw Celebrates its Community Champions

A group of Bassetlaw residents have been recognised as Community Champions after going above and beyond to support their fellow tenants.

Kelly Fletcher, Peter Bush, Lynda Ridgeway and Alan Rogers were nominated by their peers for their outstanding contributions to making a positive impact in their communities as well as supporting the improvement of the Council’s Housing Services.

Their dedication and commitment were formally recognised at the annual Tenant Conference and Meet the Team event, held at The Crossing in Worksop, where tenants and Housing staff came together to celebrate the positive impact residents are making in their communities.

In addition to the four Community Champions, several other tenants were also recognised for their outstanding contributions. Andrea Mackenzie, David Blow, Jill Lockwood and Tanice Ellis were all nominated by fellow residents for the positive impact they make within their communities.

Cllr Lynne Schuller, Cabinet Member for Housing and Estates, said: “Bassetlaw residents continue to inspire us with the incredible work they do for their neighbours and communities.

“Our Tenant Community Champions embody the very best of local spirit, going above and beyond to support others and make a real difference where they live. I’m delighted to recognise their achievements, and I want to thank each of them for their dedication, compassion and commitment to helping fellow tenants thrive.”

Kelly was recognised for her involvement in tenant groups and her efforts to improve communication between the Council and residents on her estate.

Peter was acknowledged for his consistent acts of kindness and for going above and beyond to support his neighbours.

Lynda was celebrated for her hard work and resilience as a member of the Harworth TRA, creating opportunities for local people to get involved and helping to reduce social isolation.

Alan was recognised for his work within the Tuxford community and for being a strong, reliable voice for tenants.

As part of the Tenant Conference, attendees were able to speak to various teams from the Council’s Housing Service and our contractors and received updates on the Council’s performance and activities within Housing, as well as finding out about support and wellbeing services.

These tenants were also nominated for a Tenant Volunteer Recognition Certificate, which is administered by the national tenant engagement experts, TPAS. You can read more about this at: https://www.tpas.org.uk/engagement-heroes
