Person Specification

Job title: Building Surveyor

Post reference: 1460HSGA

Grade: Grade 7

Key requirements:

Priority 1 – Could not do the job without this

Priority 2 – Could not do the job without this, but provided have Priority 1 criteria, this could be developed in the job over an acceptable period

Priority 3 – Would enhance performance in the job, but is not essential

Qualifications

  1. Degree in Building Surveying or Construction (Priority 1)
  2. Membership of a Professional Body e.g. RICS (Priority 2)

Knowledge

  1. Knowledge of current construction issues, legislation and best practice (Priority 1)
  2. Knowledge of building material, construction, trade practices, building regulations and building maintenance functions (Priority 1)
  3. Knowledge of construction techniques, specialist works, issues and planning and budgeting of works (Priority 1)

Experience

  1. A minimum of five years working within the field of construction / building surveying (Priority 1)

Skills

  1. Ability to carry out house condition survey, inspect properties and prepare schedules of condition and work required, providing advice as necessary (Priority 1)
  2. Ability to prepare schedules, specifications and programmes for improvement work based on accurate measurement (Priority 1)
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, sensitively and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a broad range of people (Priority 1)
