Storm Henk Flood Support

 Funded by UK Government

Storm Henk

Financial Support for Residents and Businesses

The Government has announced a package of support for people who have suffered internal flood damage to their homes and businesses, as a direct result of Storm Henk.

If you or your property were affected by the recent floods, you may be eligible for a Community Recovery Grant, Council Tax Discount or Business Rates Relief. This funding is being administered by Bassetlaw District Council.

Anyone whose property suffered internal flood damage as a direct result of Storm Henk between the dates of 2nd January 2024 and 8th January 2024, may be eligible to apply for the following support:

Households

Community Recovery Grant and Council Tax Discount

This scheme closed on 8th March 2024.

Flooded households that meet the criteria can apply for a grant of £500 to help with immediate costs and 100% discount Council Tax for a minimum of three months – this means you do not have to pay Council Tax during this period.

After three months, if you have not been able to return home, you may not have to pay Council Tax until you move back. If you are not able to move back into your home after three months, please tell us so that this discount may be extended.

The support does not apply to empty homes, second homes or student accommodation.

If you are not able to complete the form online, please contact our Customer Services Team on 01909 533533.

What we need from you

We will ask you to provide details about you, your affected property, bank account details and your Council Tax reference number, so that we can consider your claim and make payment to you if you are eligible.

For more information on how Bassetlaw District Council will store and process your personal data, please see our Privacy Notice.

Please note: properties will need to be verified as flooded before the Community Recovery Grant is paid.

Businesses

Business Rates Relief & Business Recovery Grant

This scheme closed on 8th March 2024.

Businesses significantly affected by flooding as a direct result of Storm Henk may be eligible for 100% business rates relief for at least three months.

Small-to-medium sized businesses in affected areas will be eligible for up to £2,500 from the Business Recovery Grant to help them return quickly to business as usual.

Please note: properties will need to be verified as flooded before the Business Recovery Grant is paid.

Storm Henk - Property Flood Resilience (PFR) Repair Grant Funding

Please note: To apply for Storm Henk PFR funding, properties must have reported to Nottinghamshire County Council as flooded prior to 8th March 2024.

Nottinghamshire County Council are administering the grants for this scheme. The grant is £5,000 including VAT, with £500 available towards survey costs. Nottinghamshire County Council will arrange surveys on behalf of property owners and have advised that the cost of the survey will be £840 including VAT, which you will need to pay as an upfront payment. If PFR works recommended in the survey are completed at your property, you will receive £500 back in grant to cover part of the survey costs, the remaining £340 will be met by you as the property owner.

The balance of the grant after survey costs will be £4,500 including VAT, and will be available for PFR works at your property. Any costs in excess of this amount for works will also need to be met by you.

If for any reason you do not have PFR works completed at your property following the survey, no grant will be made available and the full survey cost of £840 will be non-refundable.

If you previously received Property Flood Resilience (PFR) grant under a previous PFR scheme, this may mean that you are not eligible for the grant again for measures at the same property. Where a survey suggests that extra resilience measures should be installed over and above what was previously installed under a PFR Grant Scheme, or a new source of flooding is identified, eligibility will be considered on a case-by-case basis by Nottinghamshire County Council. In the event that your property is not eligible for funding, the full survey cost will fall to the property owner.

In light of the survey cost, if you are still happy to proceed with your PFR application, Bassetlaw District Council will share the details in your expression of interest with Nottinghamshire County Council, including your personal contact details. The County Council will then contact you directly to arrange survey bookings and payment and answer any specific questions about PFR works at your property.
