Financial Support for Residents and Businesses
The Government has announced a package of support for people who have suffered internal flood damage to their homes and businesses, as a direct result of Storm Babet.
If you or your property were affected by the recent floods, you may be eligible for a Community Recovery Grant, Council Tax Discount or Business Rates Relief. This funding is being administered by Bassetlaw District Council.
Anyone whose property suffered internal flood damage, or if you were not able to live in your property for more than 48 hours, as a direct result of Storm Babet between the dates of 19th October 2023 and 25th October 2023, may be eligible to apply for the following support:
Households
Community Recovery Grant and Council Tax Discount
Flooded households that meet the criteria can apply for a grant of £500 to help with immediate costs and 100% discount Council Tax for a minimum of three months – this means you do not have to pay Council Tax during this period.
After three months, if you have not been able to return home, you may not have to pay Council Tax until you move back. If you are not able to move back into your home after three months, please tell us so that this discount may be extended.
The support does not apply to empty homes, second homes or student accommodation.
If you are not able to complete the form online, please contact our Customer Services Team on 01909 533533.

Flood Clean Up
We’re working hard to help communities clean up following the flooding in areas of Bassetlaw over the weekend, and are clearing away items damaged by floodwater, and cleaning streets of detritus and debris.
In response to the floods in our area, Bassetlaw District Council will be collecting and disposing of any flood damaged items that residents may have.
- Please speak to your insurance company before disposing of anything.
- Flood water is likely to be contaminated, always wear waterproof gloves and clothing when disposing of flood damaged items
- Residents are asked to leave any flood damaged items outside their property – please ensure that this does not cover any drains or culverts.
- Please stack items such as sofas and chairs separately as this will need to be taken to a separate disposal site.
Skip or collection requests for flood damaged items can be made via our Customer Services Team on 01909 533 533.
