Under‑occupying
Having a home with more bedrooms than your household needs is known as under‑occupying.
If your current home is considered too large for your needs, you may lose part of your Housing Benefit. This could lead to financial difficulties, as you will be required to pay the shortfall yourself. You may also find that managing a larger property becomes more challenging.
If you would like to downsize to a smaller property, Bassetlaw District Council will pay you £250 for each bedroom you release.
You will also be given priority on the housing waiting list when moving to a smaller home.
Please note: This is subject to you having no rent arrears or outstanding recharges when you move.
You can also search for a Mutual Exchange.
