Bassetlaw District Council’s Active Communities recognise the important role that sports and physical activity plays in improving peoples quality of life.
As well as the council having its own Equality and Diversity policy the Active Communities team in Bassetlaw also recognise the importance of adopting a specific statement in relation to sports equity.
The Active Communities service has agreed to adopt Sport England's Equity Statement:
“Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equity of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure that it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.”
As an Active communities service we encourage the members of council staff and people from partner organisations to respect the rights, dignity and worth of everyone.
Bassetlaw District Council statement:
Equality is about making sure people are treated fairly and are given equal opportunities. Equality is not about treating everyone in the same way as it recognises that the needs of individuals are sometimes best met in different ways.
Bassetlaw District council recognises that each of us has our own unique needs, skills, qualities and abilities, and that this diversity must be valued. By having a better understanding of these issues, the Council and its partners can make sure it services are responding to the needs of local people and local communities.
We believe that everyone has a right to enjoy physical recreation and sport in an environment free from discrimination or threat.
We promote the fact that everyone has a duty to oppose any discriminatory actions or behaviour they witness or encounter.
Officers working within Active Communities promise to act upon any issues raised through reports made or from customer comments and feedback received in order to promote equality and to reduce or remove acts of discrimination in any form.
