The West Burton C Power Station project, led by EDF is a gas-fired power station with a generation capacity of up to 299MW. Located at the West Burton Power Station site, it is designed to operate as a backup power station for up to 1500 hours a year to support the electricity network.
Scoping Report
The scoping report for the proposal was accepted by the Planning Inspectorate on 6 June 2017.
Non-Statutory Consultation
EDF held a non-statutory consultation from 5 July 2017 to 2 August 2017. It gave more information about the proposed development for community input.
Statutory Consultation
The statutory consultation for the West Burton C Power Station project was held between 7 September - 16 October 2017. It set out the proposal and included the Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR).
Examination
The Council’s Adequacy of Consultation Representation, submitted on 14 May 2019, states that EDF complied with the consultation duties outlined in the Planning Act 2008.
On 23 May 2019, the Secretary of State (c/o the Planning Inspectorate), accepted the application for the West Burton C Power Station project for a Development Consent Order (DCO) under the Planning Act 2008.
The examination took place between 30 October 2019 and 22 April 2020. As part of the examination, the Council submitted a Local Impact Report on 20 November 2019:
The Council and EDF signed a Statement of Common Ground on January 14, 2020, which outlined how they worked together to ensure that there were no outstanding matters of disagreement. It also highlights the range of meetings the Council held with the applicant and other stakeholders throughout the application process.
Examination Responses
On March 9, 2020 the Planning Inspector requested written representations regarding the construction phase. The Council submitted a response on March 16, 2020.
Decision
The Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy consented the application on 21 October 2020. The Examining Authorities’ reports and Secretary of State’s decisions are available to view on the National Infrastructure Project webpage.
