North Humber to High Marnham
National Grid Electricity Transmission Ltd proposes a new electricity transmission connection between two proposed substations at Birkhill Wood (East Riding of Yorkshire) and the former High Marnham Power Station site in Bassetlaw. The proposed reinforcement is required to increase the capability of the electricity transmission network between the north of England and the Midlands. It is also needed to facilitate the connection of proposed new offshore wind farms that are planned in the area.
Scoping report
The scoping report for the North Humber to High Marnham project was accepted by the Planning Inspectorate on 29 September 2023.
Non-Statutory Consultation
National Grid Electricity Transmission Ltd held a non-statutory consultation from 23 October 2023 to 4 December 2023. It gave more information about the proposed development for community input.
National Grid Electricity Transmission Ltd held a localised consultation from 9 July 2024 to 6 August 2024. The focus of the consultation was an alternative corridor to that previously consulted on between South Wheatley and High Marnham.
Statutory Consultation
On 17 December 2024, the Council responded to National Grid Electricity Transmission Ltd’s Draft Statement of Community Consultation providing feedback about ways to enhance engagement with local communities.
The statutory consultation was held between 18 February 2025 – 15 April 2025. It set out the proposal and included the Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR).
