Community and voluntary groups in Bassetlaw are reaching out to support more residents thanks to a share of nearly £157k of funding.

Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service (BCVS) is administering the Community Voluntary Grant programme on behalf of Bassetlaw District Council, who secured the monies from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Among the 14 groups and organisations who have received a share of the cash so far is A Place To Call Our Own (APTCOO). It received over £15k for their “Grow-to-Grow” project refurbishing the kitchen and courtyard at the Tall Trees Family Hub in Retford.

Carol Burkitt, Chief Executive at APTCOO said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded the funding to kickstart the Grow-to-Grow project.

“This exciting new venture will expand the Tall Trees enterprise hub’s indoor and outdoor spaces, including a refurbished kitchen and a redesigned courtyard garden.

“These improvements will support a wide range of hands-on activities designed to help local families learn new skills, build confidence, and explore micro-enterprise opportunities.”

Grants have been made available to projects including those enhancing engagement, tackling social isolation, as well as creating volunteering opportunities. Among other organisations benefitting From the Heart Charity for its community hub, the Oasis community church and Bassetlaw Action Centre.

Claire Morton, Community Grants Programme Manager at BCVS said: “We are thrilled to see so many diverse and local VCSE groups benefiting from the Bassetlaw Community Grants Programme and the remarkable success of the projects delivered so far.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Bassetlaw District Council for their vision and ongoing commitment to supporting our local Voluntary and Community sector, enabling outstanding outcomes. Our gratitude also goes to the dedicated volunteer panel members, who gave their time to review the overwhelming number of applications, and to the 14 exceptional organisations working to deliver so much across Bassetlaw.

“We look forward to continuing this important work with Bassetlaw District Council, The Bassetlaw Place Based Partnership, and the new East Midlands Combined County Authority, building on the achievements already realised through the Shared Prosperity Fund in Bassetlaw in the area.”

Previous Community Voluntary Grant funding helped support 31 groups and organisations across the district.

Cllr Steve Scotthorne, Cabinet Member for Identity and Place said: “We are pleased to be able to support community and voluntary groups across the district, as they play an important role in helping to make where we live inclusive, healthy and welcoming.”

“We look forward to seeing the impact this latest round of funding will have in supporting organisations as they engage with residents across Bassetlaw.”
