Bassetlaw District Council is proud to host the annual Remembrance Day parade in Worksop, which recognises the service and sacrifice made by so many of our Armed Forces who have lost their lives during conflicts around the world.

Former and current members of the Armed Forces, their families, and residents are invited to be part of this commemoration on Sunday 9th November where a period of reflection will pay respects to the armed forces community.

Cllr Tony Eaton, Chair of Bassetlaw District Council, said: “Year on year we must always come together to remember those who gave so much in times of conflict.

“We owe them our unwavering gratitude; they sacrificed their all and for that we must be forever thankful”.

Cllr Sybil Fielding, Armed Forces Champion at Bassetlaw District Council said: “As the Second World War gradually fades from living memory into history, it becomes ever more important to honour the sacrifices made by that resilient generation to secure our freedom. We also recognise the countless lives lost in many conflicts and the lasting impact these losses have on families through the generations.

“On Remembrance Sunday, we stand together as a community not only to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for us, but also to pass the responsibility of remembrance to the next generation. We should take great pride in seeing our young people stand in the brisk autumn weather, paying their respects to all those from every war who never returned”.

The parade will ‘form-up’ in front of the Town Hall on the Old Market Square, at around 10:10am under the direction of the Parade Marshall, M L Simcox. The Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Richard Bond and the Chair of the District Council, Councillor Tony Eaton will then inspect the Parade accompanied by music played by the Worksop Miners’ Welfare Band.

At around 10:40am, the parade will ‘march off’ from the Market Square down to the War Memorial via Potter Street and Watson Road.

The public can observe a short wreath laying Service and Act of Remembrance conducted by Canon Nicolas Spicer, which will take place at the War Memorial at approximately 10:50am. The Worksop Salvation Army Band will play ‘The Last Post’ before a two minutes silence at 11:00am followed by the playing of the ‘Reveille’.

Following the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial, the parade will return to the Old Market Square at Worksop Town Hall for ‘Parade dismissal’.

Temporary road closures affecting Bridge Street, Potter Street, Watson Road, Priorswell Road and Memorial Avenue will be in place from 10:15am to 11:45am to facilitate the parade. Further details are available on the Via East Midlands website.
