The Retford & District Branch of The Royal British Legion will be hosting two commemorative services for Remembrance Day and Armistice Day, with support from Bassetlaw District Council.
The Remembrance Sunday service will take place on 9 November at 10:40am. The parade will take position in the Market Square, and Legion Chaplain Reverend Bryony Wood will deliver a welcome and introduction before the service begins.
The service will include the playing of ‘The Last Post’, observance of the Two Minutes Silence, and the playing of the ‘Reveille’. Organisations and individuals are invited to watch the service and take part in the laying of wreaths to follow. The National Anthem will then be sung, and the service will conclude with a march past, headed by Veterans.
Branch Secretary, Ann Hickman BEM, said “We welcome everyone to this Service in the year we commemorated the 80th Anniversary of VE and VJ days and the 85th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
“It is a time for us all to remember and give thanks to all those who have served and are serving in our Armed Forces and especially remember all who gave so much for their country.”
This year’s parade will have a mixture of serving members and Veterans of His Majesty’s Armed Forces, Army Cadet Forces, Combined Cadet Forces, Air Training Corps, Scouts & Guides and students from schools around Retford.
To mark Armistice Day, there will be a short Act of Remembrance on 11 November at the War Memorial on the Market Square. The Retford & District RBL are also inviting the public to join them at 10:40am for this service which will include the laying of wreaths and the Two Minutes Silence
