A Worksop community choir has benefited from the support of a duo of Bassetlaw District Councillors, helping to strengthen local community initiatives.
A £400 grant has enabled Musicality Singers to purchase a new keyboard after their previous instrument was damaged by flood water, leaving many of the keys unusable. The new keyboard will allow the choir to perform in a wider range of community venues, particularly those without suitable equipment, and will also support them in learning new music for future concerts.
Lorraine Walker, Treasurer of Musicality Singers, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Cllr Richardson and Cllr Fielding for their generous support. Thanks to this grant, Musicality Singers can now invest in a new keyboard, which will greatly enhance our rehearsals and performances. This will make a real difference to our singers and the community we perform for.”
Cllr Madelaine Richardson, Ward Member for Worksop North-East, and Cllr Sybil Fielding, Ward Member for Worksop North-West, contributed a portion of their Community Grants to support the project.
Cllr Richardson said: “I’m delighted to support Musicality Singers alongside Cllr Fielding with this grant for a new keyboard. Their dedication to music and the joy they bring to our community is truly inspiring, and I’m pleased that this contribution will help them continue to flourish and perform to their best.”
Musicality Singers is a choir that welcomes adults of all ages, based at Poplars Church in Worksop. Each year the group holds two concerts, raising funds to support membership and share their love of music with the community.

Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small budget and has the discretion to award grants to community activities that benefit residents in their ward. Grants may support projects in sports, culture and heritage, environment and sustainability, social welfare, and other community activities.
