You may have noticed over the past couple of weeks more visible developments taking place as part of the transformation of Worksop’s Priory Centre.
Work has started on creating a new electricity substation in the car park close to the rear of the British Heart Foundation. We are also preparing for a larger on site presence by the principal contractor G.F.Tomlinson who are setting up their site compound from Monday 9th February ahead of the planned demolition phase.
They will begin with soft stripping of the existing units before significant demolition is due to take place in March. I look forward to telling you more about further developments in the weeks and months ahead.
The redevelopment of the Priory Centre will make the town centre much more attractive to visit, complete with a mix of entertainment, leisure, retail and community space.
We have been supporting new businesses in Worksop with High Street Shop Fit Out funding enabling them to carry out structural works or buy equipment needed to trade from currently empty premises within the town centre.
It is just one of the measures we are using to attract new businesses to our high streets, encouraging new investment and creating opportunities.
The grants have been supported by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) with funding provided by the Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. (UKSPF)
We are inviting applications from businesses to apply for High Street Shop Fit Out Grants with a deadline of 31st January. To find out more visit www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/business-advice/ukspf-bidding-and-grant-opportunities/high-street-fit-out-grant/
Finally, we are working together with our partners at Newark and Sherwood District Council, Bolsover District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council to encourage families to have fun exploring visitor attractions across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
This February half term through to Easter we are inviting you to have an adventure at some of the region's most iconic days out, and explore forests, forts, ruins and mysterious carvings.
Called Rebel Rangers, each site is linked to a different ‘rebel’ from history with six locations getting involved including Clumber Park and Creswell Crags and the Welbeck Estate, with fun challenges.
Those who complete all six challenges will be entered into a prize draw to win a £1,000 Center Parcs voucher, and more! To find out more and to register to take part visit www.rebelrangers.com
