New package of planning guidance adopted by Bassetlaw District Council

Bassetlaw District Council has adopted a package of new planning guidance, known as Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs).

As well as supporting the existing Local Plan, SPDs help to improve the quality of planning applications which can speed up decision-making and development delivery.

At a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 25th November, members approved the adoption of seven SPDs including guidance on Affordable Housing, Planning Obligations, Biodiversity Net Gain, the Bassetlaw Design Code, Rapid Health Impact Assessments, Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and Householder Extensions.

Cllr Steve Scotthorne, Cabinet Member for Identity, Planning and Place said: “These Supplementary Planning Documents will help make sure Bassetlaw’s new housing and employment growth is well-designed, connects well with our existing towns and villages and that impacts upon infrastructure and the environment are managed so that our communities are not negatively affected.

“It also sets out clearly how Local Plan policies should be interpreted and used, alongside what information is needed in a planning application, giving more certainty to developers and communities about planning outcomes.”

Consultation on the seven SPDs took place earlier this year, with comments considered and amendments made to the documents where appropriate.

The new guidance will replace the councils existing ones covering Residential Design, Parking Standards, Shopfronts and Signage and Affordable Housing.

The actions approved as part of this report will commence following endorsement by the Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
