Events to support residents with social cohesion in north Worksop this Christmas have been made possible by a £600 Councillor Community Grant.
The grant supported Christ Church Worksop in hosting a Christmas and Winter Solstice Celebration and a Christmas Coffee Morning. The funding was used to provide gifts for games and prize draws, along with food and refreshments.
Altogether, the events welcomed around 200 people, creating opportunities for social connection and community spirit during the festive season.
Vanessa Hamon, Church Warden at Christ Church Worksop, said: “Thanks to this generous Councillor Grant, we’ve been able to bring our community together at a time of year when connection matters most.
“The support has allowed us to host two wonderful events and provide gifts, games, food and warm hospitality for residents. Seeing around 200 people come through our doors over both celebrations has been truly uplifting, and we’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to support so many families this Christmas.”
Christ Church, Worksop has organised events for all ages and cultures throughout the year. The Church also run programmes to welcome residents from Hong Kong and help them settle into the local community.
Cllr Alan Rhodes, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Financial Services and Ward Member for Worksop North-East, spoke on behalf of the Councillors who contributed to the events and said: “We’re really pleased to support these wonderful community celebrations. By working with Christ Church, we helped create spaces where residents could share warmth, laughter and companionship throughout the Christmas period. It was heartening to see so many people coming together and feeling part of something special.”
The Councillors who contributed towards the events were Cllr Alan Rhodes, Cllr Madelaine Richardson and Cllr Fraser Merryweather, Ward Members for Worksop North-East.
