Two Worksop men prosecuted for breaching Public Spaces Protection Orders

Two men who breached the conditions of the Worksop Town Centre Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) by having open containers of alcohol have been ordered to pay fines and costs totaling £957.

Bassetlaw District Council’s Street Wardens witnessed Kristian Devaney, 32, from Queen Street breaching the PSPO three times between June and July 2024, while Piotr Stachowiak, 42, from Watson Road was caught four times with an open container of alcohol between February and October 2024.

Prior to their conviction, the pair were handed a warning letter by the Council’s Street Wardens before being issued a fixed penalty notice of £100, which both men failed to pay.

At Southern Derbyshire Magistrates on 2nd June 2025, Devaney was ordered to pay £250, a £100 victim surcharge and £100 in costs, while a week later on the 10th June 2025, Stachowiak was ordered to pay £220, an £88 victim surcharge and £199 in costs.

Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “We recently renewed our Public Space Protection Orders in both Worksop and Retford town centres.

“It remains a useful tool to help tackle anti-social behaviour as we want people to feel comfortable and safe visiting and working in our town centres.

“These prosecutions send out a clear message to those breaching the Public Space Protection Orders we will take action, where we have the necessary evidence.”
