Fly-tipped waste in Misson leads to prosecution

A man who failed to explain how rubbish from his address ended up being fly-tipped in Misson has been ordered to pay a total of £700 at Nottingham Magistrates Court.

Bassetlaw District Council staff discovered a large quantity of waste dumped on Hagg Lane in October 2024, among it an envelope with the name and address for Reece Charnock, of Osbourne Avenue in Doncaster.

Charnock failed to respond to Environmental Health Officers to explain why waste with his details on had been found fly-tipped, he failed to attend an interview under caution in November and failed again to attend a compulsory interview in December which was an offence.

He was charged under section 110(2) of the Environment Act 1995 and was convicted in his absence by Nottingham Magistrates after failing to appear and was fined £500 and ordered to pay a £200 Victim Surcharge.

Those responsible for carrying out or allowing the fly-tip have not been identified.

Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “This sends a clear reminder to residents to make sure they are disposing of their waste in a responsible manner.

“Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence, and there is simply no excuse or justification for it. Where the public allow their waste to be fly-tipped, or fail to co-operate with an investigation into dumped waste, they risk prosecution”
