Young people across Worksop are benefitting from exciting new play equipment being installed in time to enjoy over the summer months.

Bassetlaw District Council is investing £158k as part of a play area improvement scheme which includes new climbing frames, trim trails, new surfacing and sensory boards at parks including Meadow Lea, Farr Park and Raymoth Lane.

Other parks benefiting from upgrades include Rainbow Park in Manton where £50k is being spent on new toddler play area equipment, and Wensleydale Park which is having improvements to existing sensory boards or new ones installed.

It has been funded through the community infrastructure levy; money developers must pay towards improving infrastructure in the local area and forms part of their planning consent.

Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “This is welcomed investment in our parks, providing new equipment which will bring fun and enjoyment to lots of young people in the area.”

“This allocation of funding shows facilities that benefit communities are being delivered through the planning process.”

Among the schemes already completed is Oakwood Mews where £35k has been spent on new outdoor gym equipment, trim trail, and line marking and backboards in the Multi-Use Games Area.

Cllr Julie Leigh, Leader of Bassetlaw District Council and Ward Member for Worksop South said: “It is good to see that local residents and children are already enjoying the use of the new activity apparatus at Oakwood Mews, which compliments the play equipment already available in the park.”

“Separate to this investment we have also installed some new play panels and made other small improvements to the toddler play park on Meadow Lea.”

The investment forms part of the councils Vision 2040 Healthy District ambition which includes a commitment to encourage residents to be more active in its green spaces.
