Qualifications  

  1. Relevant degree Priority 1
  2. Have achieved or is eligible for chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or other relevant professional body) Priority 1
  3. Related higher degree Priority 3

Knowledge

  1. Extensive knowledge and experience of planning legislation, case law and policy, planning techniques and the development management process (including the economics around S106 and the community infrastructure levy) Priority 1
  2. Knowledge of planning relating to the build environment, environmental and sustainability matters Priority 1
  3. An understanding of supply chain growth Priority 3

Experience

  1. At least 3 years’ experience in planning application determination at a majors level Priority 1
  2. Participation as an expert witness for the council at a variety of appeals Priority 2
  3. Experience of presenting reports (or similar) to Planning Committee (or equivalent), senior management and Member Committees Priority 2

Skills

  1. Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise, plan, co-ordinate and review own work, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in a pressurised environment Priority 1
  2. Good presentation and communication skills, verbally, in writing and to public forums. Able to communicate in a clear, structured, and readily understood manner Priority 1
  3. Ability to use specialist geographical information systems/planning software and suite of Microsoft office applications Priority 1
  4. Adaptive, progressive, innovative, and flexible in approach to work and working practices and willing to undertake a range of tasks for the effective running of the department. Embraces a culture of continuous improvement Priority 1
  5. To be able to drive, possess a current driving licence and provide a suitable vehicle for use at work Priority 1
  6. Up to date with professional competence Priority 2
