Job title: Senior Planning Policy Officer
Responsible To: Planning Policy and Specialist Services Manager
Job Purpose: To play a key role in progressing a number of planning policy documents, strategic regeneration sites and infrastructure projects. The post holder will take a full and active role in the District Council’s Place Shaping agenda which is to promote sustainable development, healthy places and a vibrant built and natural environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- To help facilitate the effective delivery of the council’s statutory planning policy duties including, the implementation, production and review of the Bassetlaw Local Plan, other planning policy documents and neighbourhood plans
- To commission, manage and review evidence base work or advisory services provided by external consultants
- To provide planning policy guidance at all stages of the planning process including pre-application and application advice, and, as necessary, informing appeals
- To develop effective partnerships with national, regional and local organisations on plans, programmes and initiatives
- To prepare and present written and oral evidence as an expert witness on behalf of the Council at public examinations
- To play a role in regeneration projects, including informing masterplans, site briefs and strategies as required
- To give planning policy advice and assistance to individuals, groups and communities consistent with Council plans, policies and procedures
- To mentor less experienced members of the team.
- To maintain a programme of continued professional development.
- To attend any necessary meetings of the District Council and to attend public meetings as required, sometimes out of usual working hours.
The post holder will be required to comply with relevant legislation and in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures.
