Job title:              Senior Planning Officer (Policy)

Responsible To: Planning Policy and Specialist Services Manager

 

Job Purpose: to support the effective delivery of the Council’s statutory planning policy responsibilities including the production, implementation, and review of the Bassetlaw Local Plan and other planning policy documents. The role also involves managing external consultants, providing expert planning policy advice throughout the planning process, and contributing to the Council’s broader strategic planning objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1. To help facilitate the effective delivery of the council’s statutory planning policy duties including, the implementation, production and review of the Bassetlaw Local Plan, other planning policy documents and neighbourhood plans

 

2. To commission, manage and review evidence base work or advisory services provided by external consultants

 

3. To provide planning policy guidance at all stages of the planning process including pre-application and application advice, and, as necessary, informing appeals

 

4. To develop effective partnerships with national, regional and local organisations on plans, programmes and initiatives

 

5. To prepare and present written and oral evidence as an expert witness on behalf of the Council at public examinations

 

6. To play a role in regeneration projects, including informing masterplans, site briefs and strategies as required

 

7. To give planning policy advice and assistance to individuals, groups and communities consistent with Council plans, policies and procedures

 

8. To mentor less experienced members of the team

 

9. To maintain a programme of continued professional development.

 

The post holder is required to carry out any other duties appropriate for the grade and responsibility level of the post.

 

The post holder will be required to comply with relevant legislation and in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures.

 

The post holder will be employed under the NJC Conditions of Service for Local Government Services.
