Planning Officer - Person Specification

Job Title: Planning Officer

Key requirements:

Priority 1 – Could not do the job without this

Priority 2 – Could not do the job without this, but provided have Priority 1 criteria, this could be developed in the job over an acceptable period

Priority 3 – Would enhance performance in the job, but is not essential

Qualifications

  • Professional qualification in town planning or appropriate equivalent. (Priority 1) 
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (Priority 2)
  • Full membership of RTPI or RICS (Chartered Town Planner) (Priority 2)
  • Study for additional technical skill, e.g. urban design; study for a management qualification. (Priority 3)

Experience

  • Experience of working in a Town Planning Development Team environment (Priority 2)
  • Experience of the UNIFORM system (Priority 2)

Skills

  • Good IT skills including the use of Word, Excel and PPT - (Priority 1)

  • Ability to produce a range of written reports and speak to these in both formal and informal environments (Priority 1)

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines (Priority 1)

  • Good written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills (Priority 1)

  • Have strong analytical and judgement skills (Priority 1)

  • The ability to work as a team player (Priority 1)

  • The ability to deal with a wide range of people (Priority 1)

Personal Attributes

  • Hold a current driving licence and access to a motor vehicle. (Priority 2)
