Responsible to: Council Solicitor

Job Purpose: To provide a paralegal support service to the Councils Legal and Housing Teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Under the direction and guidance of a legally qualified person conduct matters relating to housing disrepair/complaints and general civil cases

2. Obtaining copies of documents requested by the solicitors, for example, copies of tenancy agreements, tenancy files, etc.

3. Drafting, preparing, and collating: pleadings, witness statements, summonses, complaints, indictments, and other legal documentation

4. Enabling the Legal Team and Housing Teams to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal clients to ensure the delivery of a seamless service.

5. Ability to work independently on your own initiative and part of a team

6. To be able to manage competing priorities and adhere to strict deadlines

7. Managing the recovery of costs in litigation matters

8. Preparing cases for trial and instructing counsel including adhering to Court Directions

9. Carry out such other duties as may be required appropriate to your skills and to a level of responsibility not exceeding the grade on which you are appointed

The post holder is required to carry out any other duties appropriate for the grade and responsibility level of the post.

The post holder will be required to comply with relevant legislation and in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures.

The post holder will be employed under the NJC Conditions of Service for Local Government Services.
