Job Title: Environmental Health Officer (Neighbourhoods)

Responsible To: Environmental Health Team Leader
General Job Objective: As part of the environmental health team to carry out a range of Environmental Health duties including the investigation of complaints of statutory nuisance, noise, fly tipping and environmental crime, filthy and verminous premises. Supervision of a Technical Oficer.
- To carry out the full range of Environmental Health duties within the specified service area in line with performance criteria, prescribed timescales, budgetary provisions, legislative requirements & codes of practice.
- To take a lead role with specific projects or work areas as required by the Team Leader and to work with and supervise less experienced members of the Environmental Health Team.
- To provide information and assistance to the Environmental Health Manager on areas of Environmental Health which may be of a high priority at any given time.
- Ensure the prompt investigation of complaints and service requests, together with appropriate action, including the provision of advice and guidance as required, and to maintain a detailed record of all visits, surveys, interviews.
- Make applications to a Justice of the Peace for a warrant to enter premises when necessary.
- To scrutinise and provide responses to planning applications and other consultations, in a timely manner as required.
- Maintain up to date professional knowledge of new legislative and technical developments within your relevant service area and undertake CPD as required to maintain professional competence.
- deputise for service managers where appropriate and to attend external meetings as required.
- To assist in the training and development of Student Environmental Health Officers and Technical Officers as required.
- To exercise the responsibilities as defined in the Council’s Safety Policy in respect of Health and Safety at Work.
The post holder will be required to travel across the District of Bassetlaw, including rural areas.
The post holder will be employed under the NJC Conditions of Service for Local Government Services.
