CCTV - Advanced Operator - Job Description

Job title: CCTV Advanced Operator    

Responsible To: Control Room Manager

Special Arrangements: 24 hour, 7-day week cover is maintained, and 12-hour shifts are in operation.  Postholders will be required to work 42 hours per week, on average, on a rotating shift system.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and Police Vetting.

General Job Objective: To monitor and operate the CCTV cameras via the Control Room and provide an emergency response service via a radio and telephone network to both internal and external customers.

Specific Requirements: Be able to operate a joystick and computer keyboard. Be able to work under pressure in periods of intense activity, as part of a team.

Have clear, legible handwriting.

Key Tasks:

  1. To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the Bassetlaw Town Centre CCTV Code of Practice and Operating Instructions, in order to maintain a secure and efficient CCTV surveillance system.
  2. To monitor and operate the CCTV cameras via the Control room.
  3. To liaise with other appropriate agencies and members of Council staff.
  4. To report immediately to the appropriate Police control room, any suspicious activities / incidents that occur, and provide support /commentary to the Police
  5. To record and maintain accurate reports of all specified actions / events and take the necessary action, depending on the type and nature of the event.
  6. To report, at the earliest appropriate time, to remote site keyholders / designated individuals, any suspicious activities / incidents that occur at that site, and record and maintain reports of all such actions.
  7. To maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the system at all times.
  8. To assist in displaying and exhibiting the CCTV operation to invited interested parties.
  9. To assist in the future development of the system and service.
  10. To undertake the laid down procedures for the release of vehicles from the Council’s car parks, including trying to verify vehicle ownership and notification of release requirements.
  11. To respond to alarms and notify the Markets Office to affect emergency release.
  12. To respond promptly to fire/burglar alarms and notify clients / keyholders to affect emergency response.
  13. To maintain voice contact over supplied radio equipment.
  14. To report any breach of procedures in the service to management.
  15. Any other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibility level of the post.
