Audible bird scarer

Audible Bird Scarers are sometimes called 'Gas Guns' or 'Bangers' because they sound like shotguns. They are used by some farmers to protect crops from damage by birds. If they are too close to homes, are pointed in the wrong direction or sound too often or sound at night they may cause a nuisance.

There is a Code of Practice for farmers, which has been produced by The National Farmers' Union (NFU). This document gives guidance to farmers on how to use these devices in a way which minimises the noise problems for others.

If an audible bird scarer is causing a nuisance, the Council will speak to the landowner and try to resolve the problem.
