Tattooing advice and guidance

If you are considering operating a Tattooing business you are advised to contact the Environmental Health team for advice and guidance on the requirements of running a Tattoo Parlour/Studio.

Tattooing Toolkit

We strongly advise that you download the Tattooing and Body Piercing Guidance Toolkit prior to setting up business as it provides information on the Hygienic Operation of a Tattoo Studio with examples of good hygienic practice.

Registration

Bassetlaw District Council’s Licensing Department can provide you with the registration forms to register the premises and the Tattooist (a registration fee applies).

Inspection

Details of your application are passed on to the Environmental Health team, and an Officer will contact you to arrange a suitably convenient time for inspection.

If an Officer agrees that the business complies with the Byelaws, The Local Government (Miscellaneous) Provisions Act 1982 (Part VIII) and with standard conditions, then the Licensing Department are notified, and a Registration Certificate is issued.

Additionally

Routine follow-up inspections (risk –assessed) are also carried out.

Tattooing of Minors Act 1969

It is an Offence to a tattoo any person under the age of 18, and it is the duty of the Tattooist to ensure that they have procedure in place to ensure that they can check that all potential clients are 18 or above.
