Bassetlaw District Council want to maintain and improve the quality of life for older people in the District.  We want older people to have access to information about the services provided.

Nottinghamshire Help Yourself website is where you can find information about lots of services throughout the county in one central place.

There are many groups and clubs where you can join in with activities or get help and advice on issues, such as:

Check a trade

This scheme helps you find the right trade or service from service providers and tradesmen who have been recommended, vetted and monitored.

Everyday living equipment

This scheme can provide you with certain items of equipment that help you to stay living at home. There are items such as raised toilet seats, toilet frames, raised toilet seat with frame, grab rails, perching stools and more.

Handy person adaptation service

HPAS will provide “that bit of help” to older and vulnerable people in Nottinghamshire. The type of jobs range from fitting handrails and half steps, to changing light bulbs, fitting door locks and putting up shelves. Often very small jobs such as fixing loose carpets or installing a handrail can prevent a fall and avoid unnecessary distress to an individual.

All traders are registered with the Buy with Confidence scheme.

Bassetlaw hospital discharge scheme

When you leave hospital you can get help and support with tasks such as 

  • collecting prescriptions
  • shopping
  • light domestic chores
  • preparing your home before you are discharged.

Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) is a free service offering support, help and advice to anyone who may be feeling isolated, lonely or vulnerable in their own home.

The aim of the service is to link people with their local communities, to find solutions that are personal to your needs, and provide support to help you maintain a healthy and independent life.

Housing choice service

The service is provided in Bassetlaw by locally based voluntary organisations. The housing choices advisors will provide information and advice to help you to look at your personal housing needs. These options will include how to stay safely in your current home as well as advising you on different housing available in the area you wish to live.

The advisors are also able to provide personal assistance with any possible move to a new property, this may include completing the forms, accompanying to view properties, arrangements for the move and settling in.
